The main goal of Social Workers is to work collaboratively with individuals, groups, or communities to address challenges and improve quality of life. Social Workers understand an individual holistically, knowing that there may be external factors contributing to their psychological difficulties. They understand how an individual’s environment, biology, culture, personality and their relationships significantly shape their understanding of themselves, others, and the world. Valuing social justice, compassion, self-determination, confidentiality, and growth; Social Workers are trained to provide evidenced based treatment in psychotherapy/counselling for individuals, couples, families, and group-based therapies. Social Workers are also well versed in system-navigation and can provide support and advocacy on how to access resources in the community.
Registered Social Workers practicing psychotherapy have University degrees and are required to participate in professional training according to the regulatory body.
